On Artist Steve Gardner
Dr. Steven Gardner is an internist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is a past medical director of the Special Olympics and, for 12 years, has been a volunteer physician at the Martha's Vineyard Cerebral Palsy Camp ("Camp Jabberwocky"), the location (and inspiration) for many of his photographs.

His photographs focus on the human spirit and, specifically, the resilience of people facing adversity and the compassion of those who care for them.

He has been described by Dr. Carl Cooley of Dartmouth Medical School as "a doctor and an artist who sees with his heart." and has been awarded the "Harvard Medical School Humanism in Medicine Award" for 2005.
